RBI issued the Rural Co-operative Banks β Interest Rate on Deposits Second Amendment Directions, 2026 on 25 August 2026.
The amendment revised the temporary relaxation relating to:
β’ Fresh FCNR(B) deposits of 3β5 years
β’ Fresh NRE term deposits of 3 years and above
The temporary relaxation was brought to an end on 31 August 2026.
π― Exam Focus:

π¦ 7. RCB CRR/SLR: FOURTH AMENDMENT DIRECTIONS
RBI also issued the Rural Co-operative Banks β Cash Reserve Ratio and Statutory Liquidity Ratio Fourth Amendment Directions, 2026 on 25 August 2026.
π Important:
Do not mechanically apply the 31 August deadline of the deposit-rate amendment to the separate CRR/SLR amendment.
π― IBR Principle:
Different RBI Directions = verify the specific provision and effective date.
π‘οΈ 8. FRAUD RISK MANAGEMENT: 21-DAY SCN RULE
RBIβs fraud-risk framework for UCBs, StCBs and CCBs requires adherence to principles of natural justice.
Before declaring/classifying an account/person as fraudulent:
β Detailed Show Cause Notice (SCN)

β Minimum 21 days to respond
β Examination of the response
β Reasoned order communicating the decision

RBI continued supervisory enforcement against cooperative banks.
