1. 🚨 TODAY'S BIG BANKING CHANGE

🏦 RBI DEPOSIT-RATE FRAMEWORK

Revised RBI directions on deposit interest rates take effect today.

Key points:

• Bulk-deposit rates must be disclosed daily.

• Rates are to be displayed at 10:00 AM, with a 10-minute grace period up to 10:10 AM.

• Similar deposits accepted on the same day should receive uniform rates.

• Differential bulk-deposit pricing may be linked to applicable LCR run-off rates.

Bulk-deposit thresholds differ by bank category:

Commercial banks: ₹3 crore+

Scheduled UCBs (Tier 3/4), RRBs & LABs: ₹1 crore+

Other co-operative banks: ₹15 lakh+.

BANKER IMPACT:

Deposit pricing → ALM → LCR → Liquidity → Treasury

2. ⚖️ BANKERS' BOOKS EVIDENCE ACT, 2026

Effective today — 1 October 2026

The Bankers' Books Evidence Act, 2026 replaces the 1891 Act.

It creates a technology-neutral framework covering:

Physical • Electronic • Digital banking records

It also standardises authentication/certification and strengthens safeguards relating to production of bankers' books and appearance of bank officials.

🎯 EXAM FACT:

1891 → 2026

3. 💧 RBI LIQUIDITY: SEPTEMBER'S BIG STORY

RBI used multiple instruments to manage surplus liquidity:

VRRR + OMO Sales + FX-related operations

September OMO sales totalled approximately ₹1 lakh crore.

Key chain:

FX inflows → Rupee liquidity → RBI absorption → Money-market conditions

For banks, this affects funding conditions, ALM and treasury positioning.

4. 💵 FOREX & RUPEE

Forex reserves stood at US$765.90 billion for the week ended 18 September 2026.

The rupee ended September around ₹95.83/$.

October watch:

Crude oil • US yields • Capital flows • RBI intervention

EXAM TRAP:

Forex accumulation and rupee liquidity are related, but not identical.

5. 📈 INDUSTRIAL GROWTH: 8.0%

August 2026 IIP: 8.0%

• Manufacturing: 9.0%

• Electricity: 12.3%

• Mining: –5.6%

CREDIT LINK

Industrial activity → Capex + Working Capital → Credit Demand

6. 🇮🇳 GDP 7.8% — INFLATION STILL MATTERS

Q1 FY27 real GDP growth: 7.8%

August WPI inflation: 9.92%

Major components:

• Primary Articles: 7.76%

• Fuel & Power: 22.93%

• Manufactured Products: 8.37%

IBR INSIGHT

The macro question is not only:

“How fast is the economy growing?”

It is also:

“Can growth remain strong without renewed inflationary pressure?”

7. 💰 ECLGS 5.0: MSME CREDIT PUSH

Government's ECLGS 5.0 targets approximately:

₹2.55 LAKH CRORE

of additional credit flow.

The scheme provides guarantee support to eligible borrowers, including MSMEs, subject to prescribed conditions.

CREDIT PRINCIPLE

Guarantee reduces lender risk — it does not replace credit appraisal.

8. 🔗 TReDS + CGTMSE

CGTMSE support integrated with TReDS strengthens receivables-based MSME finance.

SIMPLE MODEL

Invoice → TReDS → Financing → Faster liquidity

This can reduce working-capital pressure caused by delayed payments.

🎯 EXAM FACT:

TReDS = Receivables Financing

9. 📲 UPI: 15 OCTOBER WATCH

The new UPI merchant-payment MDR framework is scheduled from 15 October 2026.

For specified P2M transactions above ₹2,000, MDR of 0.4% applies under the notified framework.

Remember:

MDR ≠ customer transaction fee

P2P transactions remain free.

EXAM TRAP

Don't confuse:

MDR ≠ Transaction Charge ≠ GST

10. 🏦 BANKING FOR YOUTH — STARTS TOMORROW

The PSB Banking for Youth campaign begins 2 October.

Focus:

Financial inclusion • Digital banking • Financial awareness • Youth engagement

The initiative targets youth above 16 and envisages outreach through educational and skill-development institutions.
