1. π¦ RBI SEPTEMBER BULLETIN β RESILIENCE DESPITE GLOBAL RISKS
The RBI's September 2026 Bulletin highlights continued resilience in the Indian economy despite geopolitical tensions, elevated energy-price risks and global financial-market volatility.
πΉ Real GDP growth: 7.8% in Q1 FY2026-27
πΉ CPI inflation: 4.8% in August 2026
πΉ Strong export growth helped narrow the merchandise trade deficit.
πΉ Strong FDI flows supported the external sector.
πΉ FCNR(B) inflows significantly increased system liquidity.

π― EXAM CONNECT: GDP + Inflation + External Sector + Monetary Policy = high-value Banking/GS-III current affairs.
ββββββββββββββββββββββ
2. π CREDIT-DEPOSIT RATIO β HIGH DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN RISK
The RBI's September Bulletin provides an important conceptual correction.
The SCB credit-deposit ratio stood at about 82.2% at end-March 2026, after credit growth had outpaced deposit growth since FY2023.
But the RBI analysis cautions against using the CD ratio alone to assess funding vulnerability.
Why?
πΉ Deposits can be created alongside bank lending.
πΉ Banks consider profitability and risk-adjusted returns.
πΉ Capital position matters.
πΉ Liability composition matters.
πΉ Asset deployment and reserve adjustments matter.
πΉ Deposits can move between banks.
π FORMULA
CD Ratio = Bank Credit Γ· Aggregate Deposits Γ 100
π― BANKER ACTION: Assess CD ratio together with liquidity, capital, ALM, funding structure and asset quality.
π‘ EXAM TRAP:
High CD Ratio β Automatically High Funding Risk.
ββββββββββββββββββββββ
3. π° PRIVATE CORPORATE INVESTMENT β CAPEX MOMENTUM
The RBI's September analysis indicates improvement in private corporate investment activity.
πΉ Project sanctions by banks/FIs increased in FY2025-26.
πΉ Infrastructure attracted a major share of envisaged investment.
πΉ Power remained a leading infrastructure segment.
πΉ Pipeline projects indicate envisaged capex of about βΉ3.2 lakh crore in FY2026-27.
π ECONOMIC CHAIN
Private Capex β Capacity β Productivity β Employment β Demand β Growth
π― BANKER CONNECT: Capex creates opportunities for project finance, equipment finance, MSME credit and ancillary industriesβbut repayment capacity remains critical.
ββββββββββββββββββββββ
4. π§ LIQUIDITY β FROM SURPLUS TO MODERATION
System liquidity surged following FCNR(B) inflows but has subsequently moderated.
πΉ Peak around 6 September: βΉ11.16 lakh crore
πΉ 21 September: about βΉ4.92 lakh crore
πΉ 22 September: about βΉ4.44β4.45 lakh crore
RBI's liquidity-management tools included:
πΉ OMO sales
πΉ VRRR operations
πΉ Forex-related operations
RBI absorbed about βΉ75,026 crore through VRRR on 23 September.
π LIQUIDITY CHAIN
Liquidity β Money-Market Rates β Credit Pricing β Treasury β ALM
π― BANKER ACTION: Treat liquidity as a dynamic variable, not a permanent surplus.
Recent reporting says RBI bond sales, FX operations and tax-related outflows materially reduced the earlier cash surplus.
ββββββββββββββββββββββ
